Fast forward a few months and the reality of this vision had set in...my breasts were huge and hard as a rock. My perfect little baby had a head that dwarfed in comparison to this watermelon sized feeding apparatus. Milk squirted at a ferocious pace often causing him to pull off, squirting milk everywhere. There was no cradling my little boy while he gently latched on... it was more like holding this watermelon back so it didn't suffocate him! No one ever told me that it would be like this...
As the weeks went by, feeding wasn't easy by any stretch of the imagination, but we found some sort of groove. I never really fed in public as I would have needed an extra hand or two to be able to be discreet enough to feel comfortable. I never liked the idea of covering his head under a hot blanket while he tried to eat but I also wasn't comfortable having my whole breast on view while out to lunch or dinner.
I remember once at a shop a lady had a baby that began to fuss while she was in the checkout line and she picked her up and "popped' her on to feed. It was so simple and easy and I thought, "I wish I could do that". I just needed something to hold everything in place...
Fast forward (again) four years when my second little darling arrived. I had the same issues but the experience was quite different thanks to the one prototype of Discretion by Gina that I had on hand. I was more confident feeding in public as the bra did all the fumbling and holding for me. A quick flip of the clip and slight adjustment to the inner discreet piece and I was the lady that could feed while standing in line at the checkout or while following my toddler around at the park!
So my personal conclusion is that bigger is not always better for feeding. Sure, everyone is different with different experiences and opinions but for me and many other mother's, there are unique obstacles that need to be considered when breastfeeding with large breasts.
